Evaluating the simulated toxicities of metal mixtures and hydrocarbons using the alkane degrading bioreporter Acinetobacter baylyi ADPWH_recA

Oil spillages lead to the formation of hydrocarbon and metal mixtures possessing effects on alkane-degrading bacteria that are responsible for bioremediation oil-contaminated soils waters. Studies bacterial responses mixture petroleum can inform appropriate strategies bioremediation. We employed a luminescent bioreporter Acinetobacter baylyi ADPWH_recA with alkane degradation capability evaluate combined from heavy metals (Cd, Pb Cu) alkanes (dodecane, tetradecane, hexadecane octadecane). Bioluminescent ratios in single Cd or treatments ranged 0.25 1.98, indicating both genotoxicity cytotoxicity these two metals, while < 1.0 postexposure Cu showed its cytotoxic impacts bioreporter. Metal exhibited enhanced antagonistic (Ti > 4.0) determined by Toxic Unit model. With 100 mg/L alkane, morbidity ADPWH-recA reduced 20%, showing inhibition toxicity. Exposed containing 10 Cu, weak binding affinity contributed high 85% cells.
